It is such a gift when the quiet dedication of chaplaincy work is recognised in the public domain.
Recently, one of our airport chaplains Martyn Scrimshaw, was featured on national television for his positive presence and pastoral care provision at Melbourne Airport during the recent busy time with school holiday travellers. Though not featured, Martyn coordinates a team of volunteer chaplains who work alongside him.
As a chaplain, Martyn certainly goes the extra mile in supporting travellers, staff and visitors with the provision of spiritual and pastoral care. He values the opportunity to serve the Melbourne Airport community, where he helps others to navigate the ‘journey of life’ – with its ups and downs - to arrive safely at their destination.
We are grateful to the Channel 7 Sunrise team for capturing Martyn’s role in their ‘Feel Good Friday’ segment.
The story highlights the many ways in which chaplains forge social connections, listen to others, offer empathy and spiritual care, as well as collaborate with key services.
It is encouraging to see our chaplains affirmed and celebrated for the positive impact on wellbeing they achieve in communities, in partnership with others.
