Hope for Homelessness

Did you know that Korus Connect has a chaplain based in a Melbourne shopping centre? They are called a community connector. Belinda* works closely with vulnerable members of the community, and she is seeing the impact of rising homelessness firsthand. Your donations, prayers and volunteering will help Belinda continue supporting people in need.

Earlier this year, Belinda met Joey*, a homeless young man who had been sleeping rough at the shopping centre for 3 weeks. Belinda was able to assist with Joey’s housing situation. After some enquiries, Belinda found out that Joey’s application for housing was lost in the system although it was listed as high priority.  After speaking with the Department of Housing, Belinda was able to advocate for Joey’ and helped escalate his case and arrange temporary housing until his own place is available. Knowing that this young man is safe and has a chance at a better life is a wonderful result!

On another occasion, Belinda gave a sleeping swag to a man experiencing homelessness. She sat with him, shared a meal and listened to his story.  From there, she was able to connect him with additional support services. Belinda said, “This gentleman was grateful and even surprised that someone would take the time to eat lunch with him.”
