A school chaplain has been providing support for a Year 6 girl over the last few years (let's call her *Chloe). This year, Chloe's speech was disjointed and she seemed a little more jittery and shaky than usual.

The chaplain began to put some more strategic supports in place and Chloe began to open up about her home life, and how lonely and scared she was. Chloe mentioned the physical abuse she witnessed at home and how it made her feel.

This young girl would arrive at school by 8am every morning because she couldn’t wait to get out of her house. Through conversation, the chaplain discovered Chloe’s passion for Lego and wondered if it could be a way to help her. The chaplain fundraised and bought her two big boxes of Lego, and got some Year 6s to help build two tables for the Lego out in the schoolyard.

When the chaplain put Chloe in charge; she stepped up and was very organised, and took great joy in creating a Lego club.

At the end of last term Chloe was presented with a citizenship award. Her mother is so appreciative of the transformation in confidence and self-esteem that she sees in her daughter.

This club has become a safe space for other students to feel welcomed and accepted. It gives them a creative outlet, away from 'screen time' and allows them to learn team work and to express themselves. Lego Club is a special place and time for Chloe and others at school. What a great example of students and a school chaplain working together!
